We are pleased to invite you to the 7th Workshop of the Polish Zebrafish Society, which will take place in Olsztyn from 25 to 27 June 2025. The workshop will be held at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn, (ul. Oczapowskiego 13 and 14).

The training is intended for all scientists interested in research using zebrafish (Danio rerio) as a model organism. It will provide participants with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills essential for working with zebrafish in various scientific fields, including genetics, developmental biology, toxicology, and biomedical research.

Program

The workshop will consist of open lectures and practical sessions:

Open Lectures (Day 1, 1:00 - 5:00 p.m.): No registration required. These lectures will focus on using zebrafish as a model organism for studying human diseases. A poster session will follow until 8:00 p.m..

Practical Training (Days 2-3): Hands-on sessions covering essential zebrafish research techniques, including:

Husbandry and breeding

Toxicological testing

Microinjections (including zebrafish xenograft model)

Advanced microscopy

Behavioral analyses

CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing

Genotyping and more

Registration

Participants interested in attending the practical sessions should send an application and a short cover letter (max. 250 words) to zebrafish.pl@gmail.com by May 18, 2025. Due to limited capacity, applicants will be selected based on their cover letter.

Registration deadline: May 18, 2025

Announcement of selected participants: May 25, 2025

UWM Kortowo
Welcome to Kortowo – The Academic Town of UWM!

Kortowo is one of the most picturesque academic campuses in Poland, offering a perfect setting for both scientific collaboration and relaxation. Nestled between lakes and green parks, it provides an inspiring and peaceful environment ideal for exchanging ideas and deepening knowledge.

As the workshop takes place in late June, you will have the opportunity to experience Kortowo in its full summer charm. The long, sunny days and vibrant greenery make it a wonderful place to visit. The nearby Kortowskie Lake is perfect for a relaxing walk after an intense day of lectures and practical sessions. You can also explore the university’s surroundings, enjoy local cafes, or simply unwind in one of the many green spaces around the campus.

Olsztyn itself is a charming city with a rich history, beautiful Old Town, and numerous attractions. If you have some extra time, we encourage you to discover its medieval castle, scenic parks, and lively cultural scene.

We look forward to welcoming you to Kortowo and sharing this unique experience with you!
