We are pleased to invite you to the 7th Workshop of the Polish Zebrafish Society, which will take place in Olsztyn from 25 to 27 June 2025. The workshop will be held at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn, (ul. Oczapowskiego 13 and 14).
The training is intended for all scientists interested in research using zebrafish (Danio rerio) as a model organism. It will provide participants with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills essential for working with zebrafish in various scientific fields, including genetics, developmental biology, toxicology, and biomedical research.
Program
An independent workshop "Design Thinking in Research" will be held before the 7th Workshop of the Polish Zebrafish Society (Day 1, 9:00 - 12:00 a.m) .
The workshop will consist of open lectures and practical sessions:
Open Lectures (Day 1, 1:00 - 5:30 p.m.): No registration required. These lectures will focus on using zebrafish as a model organism for studying human diseases. A poster session will follow until 8:00 p.m..
Practical Training (Days 2-3): Hands-on sessions covering essential zebrafish research techniques, including:
Husbandry and breeding
Toxicological testing
Microinjections (including zebrafish xenograft model)
Advanced microscopy
Behavioral analyses
CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing
Genotyping and more
Registration
Participants interested in attending the practical sessions should send an application and a short cover letter (max. 250 words) to zebrafish.pl@gmail.com by May 22, 2025. Due to limited capacity, applicants will be selected based on their cover letter.
Registration deadline: May 22, 2025
Announcement of selected participants: May 25, 2025
Fee: 150 PLN for PTZ members (who have paid the 2025 membership fee), 200 PLN for non-members. The fee covers training participation, coffee breaks, and lunches. New members may allocate part of the fee toward the PTZ membership.
Poster Session
Selected participants will be required to prepare a poster on their research projects. Posters must:
be in English
be in portrait format (A0 size: 1189 mm height x 841 mm width)
exclude bibliography
use a sans-serif font (preferably Verdana)
Organizers
The workshop is organized by the Management Committee of the Polish Zebrafish Society.
We look forward to seeing you in Olsztyn!
🧠 Research meets creativity – join the Design Thinking in Research workshop!
The Polish Zebrafish Society warmly invites all interested researchers to participate in a free, hands-on workshop focused on applying Design Thinking in academic research.
📅 Date: June 25, 2025
🕘 Time: 9:00–12:00
📍 Venue: Prof. M. Tarczyński Auditorium, Oczapowskiego 13/1, Olsztyn
🔢 Capacity: 40 participants (first come, first served)
💰 Participation is free of charge!
What will you gain?
Participants will explore how to:
identify real user needs in the research process,
generate and test research ideas creatively,
collaborate effectively in interdisciplinary teams,
enhance the practical and social impact of scientific work.
The workshop is fully hands-on – guiding participants through all Design Thinking stages: empathy, problem definition, ideation, prototyping, and testing.
📎 No prior experience required – just bring curiosity and a notebook!
